Silhouette Cameo 3- Frequently Asked Questions

your silhouette cameo 3 questions answered

The Silhouette Cameo 3 was released Monday August 1, 2016!  We are super excited to be able to offer you some great deals on the machine and I want to answer any questions you might have.  Below is a list of questions I have received so far, as well as the answers!  If you have any questions I missed, please leave a comment on the blog post and I will get them answered for you!

What's new about the Cameo 3?

The Cameo 3 features built in Bluetooth; Touch Screen with built in speakers; a higher roller bar so you can cut up to 2 mm thick material; dual carriage so you can cut and draw at the same time (or draw with two pens, cut with two blades, etc); tons of built in storage; self adjusting blade and updated roller bars.  See more details here: http://www.craft-e-corner.com/blog/2016/05/introducing-the-silhouette-cameo-3.html

I already have the Designer Edition Plus software upgrade, do I have to buy the software upgrades again to use the Cameo 3?

No, you will not need to purchase new software upgrades.  The Cameo 3 uses the same software that the Cameo 1 and 2 use, Silhouette Studio.  There will be an updated version of the software (Silhouette Studio 4) that will allow you to use the features special to the Cameo 3, such as the dual carriage, but this will not affect your upgrades.  If you've already purchased an upgrade such as Designer Edition, Connect, Business Edition or Designer Edition Plus, you will still have that same software upgrade when you get a Cameo 3 and update to Silhouette Studio 4 (yay!).

Does the Silhouette come with software?

Yes, the Cameo 3 comes with access to the basic Silhouette Studio Software.  You can go right to SilhouetteAmerica.com to download it without even having a machine.  Note: there is no physical software CD included in the box, you will have to go to SilhouetteAmerica.com and download the software.  Go here: https://www.silhouetteamerica.com/software#update

Do you have to be connected to the internet to use the Silhouette 3?

No, you do not need to be connected to the internet to use the software.  You will need to be connected to go to the design store to download designs (if using), but the machine can be used without any internet connection.  Internet connection is needed for Bluetooth access, however.

Can you use a Cameo 3 and a Cameo 2 at the same time with Business Edition?

Yes, you can use two machines at the same time with the Business Edition software and they do not have to be the same edition machine.

Can you use a Cameo 1 or 2 with the new software (Silhouette Studio 4)?

Yes, you can upgrade to the new software and continue to use an older model machine.  You will not be able to utilize the features specific to the Cameo 3 (such as auto blade or dual carriage, for example), but you will be able to use Silhouette Studio 4 with an older model machine.

Can you use the Silhouette Roll Feeder with the Cameo 3?

Yes, the roll feeder works wonderfully with the new machine!  If you have vinyl or heat transfer material on a roll, load it into the roll feeder and feed the vinyl into your machine.  When you're done cutting, cut right off the back with the cross cutter and save yourself time from loading and unloading your vinyl.

The box does not say that it is a Cameo 3, did I get the old model?

The boxes do not state that it is the newer version of the machine.  You can tell based off how the machine looks and what the box looks like as well.  The Cameo 2 machine has a picture of the Cameo on the top of the white box.  The Cameo 3 machine has a picture of fruit that is cut out of paper on the top of the white box.  The Cameo 2 is more triangular in shape and you can see the touch screen when it is on your desk.  The Cameo 3 is more boxy and has a cover that covers the touch screen when it is sitting on your desk.  Both Cameo 2 and 3 are white in color and have a touch screen to the right.  The Cameo 1 machine is gray and darker gray and has buttons to push instead of a touch screen.

Does the Cameo 3 fit in the Silhouette Rolling Tote?

The Cameo 3 machine will NOT fit in the rolling tote.  Well... technically you CAN get it in there, but it's a real struggle to cram it in there and take it out again.  I would not recommend it for the Cameo 3.

Can you use the self adjusting blade in a Cameo 2?

No, the self adjusting blade can only be used in the Cameo 3 machine, in the left hand holder of the dual carriage.

How does the self adjusting blade work? Does the self adjusting blade have some sort of sensor to know what length the blade needs to be to cut your material?

When you use the self adjusting blade, you will tell the software what material you are cutting.  There are built in presets in the machine, similar to the Cameo 1 or 2.  So, if you are cutting vinyl for example, you pick "vinyl" from the materials menu in the blade setting window.  The machine then knows it needs to set the blade to a 2.  You would then send the cut job to the machine.  The machine will then move the blade carriage over to the left hand side of the machine and tap the blade up and down until it reaches a blade setting of 2.  It will then cut the material.

The blade does not have a sensor in it to figure out what dept it needs to set itself to.  You cannot load up a piece of paper and have the blade figure out what depth it needs to be in order to achieve a perfect cut.  You will still have to tell the blade what length it needs to be so the machine can make the adjustment for you.

Read more about Silhouette blades here: Silhouette 101: All About the Blades

What is so special about the dual carriage?

The dual carriage allows you to do two things at once.  You can cut and sketch, sketch with two sketch pens or cut with two blades at the same time!  Why would you want to cut with two blades at once?  If you have two different types of materials you are cutting, for example, you would find having two blades handy.  I cut vinyl and paper on the same mat, so I loaded up one blade to cut the vinyl and the other to cut the paper.  This allowed me to get both cut jobs done with the same mat loading, which saved some time.

Sketching and cutting is also very handy.  If you want to make gift tags, for example, just load up the cutting blade in one side and the sketch pen in the other side.

Can I use the Cameo 1 or 2 dust cover on the Cameo 3?

No, you will not be able to use the Cameo 1 or 2 dust covers on the Cameo 3.  The 1 and 2 are more triangular than the 3, so the dust cover will not fit the 3.  There will be Cameo 3 dust covers available soon, however.

What blades can you use with the Cameo 3?

They made some changes to the Cameo 3 carriage to include two holders.  The size of the holders have not changed, however.  This means that if you could use it in any previous Cameo model, or a Portrait, you can use it in the Cameo 3.  This includes the Standard Ratchet Blade, the Deep Cut Blade, the Fabric Blade and the Premium Blade.  You can also use the Silhouette Sketch Pens (no adapter needed) and the Silhouette Pen Holder.  AND YES, you can still use the Chomas Marker Holder and Pen Holder, the Chomas Etching Tool!

Read all about the Silhouette blades here: Silhouette 101: All About the Blades

Have they changed the cutting mat?

No, the cutting mat used for the Cameo 3 is the same as previous mats you may already be familiar with.  You can use a 12x12" standard mat, light tack mat, 12x24" mat and even an 8" Portrait Mat, if you wish.  The Cameo 3 is also PixScan enabled, so you can use a PixScan mat as well.  If you have mats from your old machine(s), you can still use them with the Silhouette 3.

Do you have to cut with a mat?

This is a yes and no answer.  If you are cutting vinyl, you may not need to use a mat.  If you cut vinyl that is 9 or 12 inches wide,  you can cut it without a mat.  There is a cutting strip in the deck of the machine that will allow you to cut without a mat on materials that have a backing sheet (like vinyl).  If you are cutting smaller/scrap pieces of vinyl or paper, you will still want to use a cutting mat.

Is the Cameo 3 machine quieter than the previous models?

So far, I have not noticed a difference between the noise made by the machine.  The self-adjusting blade taping is not whisper quiet either.  I found that using a foam dish mat helps insulate the noise though.  I can't say you would probably be able to use the machine in the same room as a light sleeping baby.

How do I turn off the clicking sounds from the pushing buttons?

The Silhouette Cameo 3 has built in speakers.  This is to help you ensure that you have hit the buttons and not guess if you hit the button or not.  This is a handy update, but can also be unwanted.  If you want to turn off the sounds, use the preferences on the machine and find the Sounds.  Just choose "off" in the sounds menu.

Where is the load mat/load media button?

On the previous models, there was a "Load Mat" and a "Load Media" options (whether through touch screen or buttons).  The Cameo 3 just has a "Load" and "Unload" button only.  If, in your software, your design has a cutting mat under the work space, the machine will load mat.  If you do not have a cutting mat, the machine will load media.  To turn the mat on or off, go to Design Page Settings>Cutting Mat and then select the mat you are using (or not using).

Why does my machine shut itself off after 15 minutes of no use?

The Cameo 3 has a built in sleep timer.  You can decide how long you want it to stay on for, but the default is 15 minutes.  You can go all the way up to 30 minutes or turn the sleep timer off if you'd like.

Does it use the same power cord as the previous models?

Yes, the power cord for the Cameo 1 or 2 will work with the Cameo3.

What is the white plastic thing with holes in it for?

This is one of the items you will get with your machine and it should come in the baggie with the Cross Cutter and the Self Adjusting Blade.  Silhouette America does not have an official name for it, but I am calling it the Blade Chuck.  This is used to adjust your blades, take the cap off the Self Adjusting Blade to clean it out and also helps you remove the Bluetooth from your machine.  Read all about the blade chuck here: http://www.craft-e-corner.com/blog/2016/07/silhouette-cameo-3-blade-chuck-tool-and-how-to-remove-the-bluetooth-dongle.html

Does Bluetooth already come with the machine?  Where it is?

Yes, machines in the US will come with Bluetooth built right in.  For international machines, there is an adapter option that Silhouette has not quite given us details on.  To locate the Bluetooth, you must turn your machine over.  On the bottom of the machine, there is a small door labeled "Bluetooth" that is held closed with a small screw. To remove the Bluetooth, you would take the screw out and use the Blade Chuck to remove the dongle.  Please see this post for details: http://www.craft-e-corner.com/blog/2016/07/silhouette-cameo-3-blade-chuck-tool-and-how-to-remove-the-bluetooth-dongle.html

Why won't my Cameo 3 connect to the Bluetooth?

The Bluetooth functionality will work with the release of Silhouette Studio 4.0.  This is scheduled to be released in the fall.  The Bluetooth will not work reliably until you update to 4.0.

How thick of material can the Cameo 3 cut?

The Cameo 3 can cut up to 2 mm thick, including materials such as craft foam.

Is there anything they didn't bring over from the Cameo 2?

Most features from the 2 have been carried over, such as the touch screen and the cross cutter in the back.  The only thing they did not bring over is the small storage drawer on the side of the machine, which makes sense as there is a lot of other built in storage.

Is there a user manual?

The machine will come with very little paperwork.  If you wish to view a user manual, please check it out here: http://cdn.silhouetteamerica.com/m/d/manual_silhouette-studio_v5.pdf

Where/how do I register my machine?

You can register the machine with Silhouette America on their website here: https://www.silhouetteamerica.com/register-product

How do I access my 100 free designs that comes with the machine?

You will have access to the 100 free designs when you register the machine, plug it in and open Silhouette Studio.  If you have questions or problems accessing these designs, please contact Silhouette America at 1-800-859-8243.

Does the Cameo come with a warranty?

Yes, the Silhouette Cameo 3 comes with a 1 year manufacturer warranty.  Craft-e-Corner is an authorized Silhouette retailer and all of our machines come with this warranty.  The warranty will cover any purchase where the buyer is in the US or Canada.  International customers, the machine does not come with a warranty.  If you experience troubles with your machine, please contact Silhouette at 1-800-859-8243 or support@silhouetteamerica.com.

I still cannot connect to my wifi on my Mac, it is showing on the BlueTooth connection in preferences, but says it is not connected. Isn't it suppose to connect automatically?

The Bluetooth is not functional yet. Silhouette America will need to release Silhouette Studio 4 before the Bluetooth will work. They're expecting to have that released in the fall.

I have the silhouette cameo 3 and have been trying to find the exact dimensions of it ever since I received it. I am having my aunt make a dust cover for it and have measured it myself to the best of my ability for sewing purposes for her. I have looked on the box and on Silhouette's website to no avail. Do you happen to know the actual dimensions of the machine itself? Thanks!

    • Kala

The machine is 22.5 inches long, 9.5 inches wide (which includes space for the cross cutter track in the back) and 5.5 tall that tapers down to about 3 inches tall in the front.

I'm having troubles with connecting the bluetooth. I hear from a lot of people that the bluetooth is working, except mine...

I've downloaded and installed the latest software (3.8.088) and firmware (1.20) and connected the C3 with my laptop, but Studio won't see my C3 :(

I'm sorry to hear you're having problems with the Bluetooth Jessica! They actually have not released Silhouette Studio 4 yet, which will allow the Bluetooth to be functional. Your machine isn't defective, but it does need a software update. This will be released in the fall, so keep an eye on SilhouetteAmerica.com to see when Silhouette Studio 4 is released.

      Hi Fay,
I am not sure if you can purchase one in Ontario, but we do ship to Canada if you wanted to get one off our site. It would even come with a 1 year warranty.

      Thank you

      Hi Brooke,
I'm not sure, I haven't had this particular problem before. I would contact Silhouette, they can help you trouble shoot that. I think it might be a firmware issue? Please let me know what fixed it for you when you have it resolved.

My cameo 3 auto adjust blade won't auto adjust.... it will go to the left of the machine and click up and down but the blade indicator only changes to "0" or "10" and will not adjust in between the two numbers no matter how many times it clicks to adjust... my mat has been cut through when its at the "10" level and will not make any cuts or marks when in the "0" but it will not auto adjust to any blade lengths in between

    Reply
    • Kala

I'm sorry you're struggling with the auto blade Emma... are you sure the blade is locked into place? When you have it secure, you should see a light blue dot. If the blade is not locked in place, it will not adjust between numbers. If it's not working, please give Silhouette America a call (1-800-859-8243). If you want to just keep cutting and have Silhouette help you figure it out later, you can set the blade to your desired length with the blade chuck or the hole in the deck of your machine. Just make sure the red line goes above the number you want. Pop the blade in and tell the machine you're using a black ratchet blade instead. This will make the blade not adjust itself, which doesn't seem right since it's an auto blade, but it will get you cutting. If you're not changing the blade setting often, then this would work whether it was adjusting itself properly or not.

      Hope this helps!

I am so fustraded I just got my new silhouette 3 and the status is stuck on paused, this is where you would send the job to the silhouette (on my computer) it has been like this for 2 days now I have tried everything and nothing is working

    Reply
    • Kala

Try unplugging the machine from the wall. If you interrupt the cutting, it will "Pause" and I have found that unplugging it from the wall is the only way to make it stop saying paused. A firmware update is supposed to help this issue, but I have yet to do that.

      Hope this helps!

I have a new Cameo 3 and I cant get the right roller bar to twist or move...Ive tried twisting and nothing happens. Should it click or something? Thanks!

    Reply
    • Kala

Look closely at the roller- there is a little lock and a little unlock symbol. If you hold the larger white part- twist towards unlock, it should be pretty easy to do. It doesn't really make a noise, but it should go from the unlock to the lock position. Then you can move it over to one of the grooves in the bar and lock it back into place.

I am desperately trying to figure out the autoblade. My software has been updated to 3.8.1 18ssbe and my firmware is version 1.30. I have both my Cameo 1 and Cameo 3 connected. But I do not have the option for the Tool 1 & Tool 2 and it does not give me the option to select the autoblade. I still get Rachet Blade, the 3 different cap colors and Sketch Pen. Everything is put in right but it just won't give me the option to select which tool I want. It doesn't even show it on the screen in the cut settings. I am connected Bluetooth and the connection shows the Ready option

When i installed it on my PC, it doesnt have the Tool1, Tool2 option and it doesnt have the autoblade option, and the machine is not recognized. the SS version im using is 3.8.194ss.
        Can you please help me??

        • Kala

Hi Jon- To get all the Cameo 3 options to pop up, you need to turn the machine on and open the software. Once the software recognizes that the Cameo 3 is plugged in, it should show you the different options. If you have the software open already, you'll need to close the software and reopen it when the Cameo has been plugged in (with USB cord) and turned on. Hope this helps!

Have you tried holding the one side and then the other and twisting? If you look really close, you can see a "lock" and an "unlock" symbol. Flip the lever on the right hand side to make the bar go up a little bit, then you should be able to twist it. Note only the right hand roller bar will move, the left does not. Hope this helps!

    Cameo 3 question.
On the screen grid there is 12 boxes that match the 12 boxes on my mat and then there is a red square that I am assuming it is a print scale, but this red square only goes to the 8th inch of the 12 inches it is supposed to go to. How do I change this?

    Reply
    • Kala

      Hi Melissa,
The red square is the cut border. The gray box is the print border. To change your cut border (or print border) go to the Design Page Settings Window and adjust your material size. Here's more information about the digital cutting mat that will help: http://www.craft-e-corner.com/blog/2016/11/the-silhouette-cameo-mat-all-you-need-to-know-and-more.html

Greetings! We are setting up our very first Silhouette! We tried to draw simple text with a pink outline and purple fill, on printer paper. Paper is on the matt, matt is loaded, pink pen is in the red slot and purple pen is in the blue slot. We've selected 'pen' for both sockets, and away we went! Only, the pink draws a lovely line, and then the purple draws a lovely line exactly on top of the pink line, and no fill.
What do we need to do to get a pink outline and purple fill? Do we need to offset or inset something? Thank you!

    Reply
    • Kala

When you are drawing with sketch pens, to get the inside of the letters to fill in, you can either use a sketch font or you can use the internal offset to create multiple lines to sketch out. The sketch pens will only sketch where there are lines, so you can either use a font with a lot of internal lines in it already, or you would have to add the lines by adding them through the offset :)

I don't usually work off a USB stick, but I know there are many problems solved by unplugging the machine from the wall, letting it sit for a minute and then plugging it back in. Let me know if that works, if not, we can keep trouble shooting!

If you're having problems with the firmware updating, you may need to contact Silhouette for them to work through the steps to completely remove Silhouette Studio from your computer to start over again. If you just delete the icon from your desktop or just remove the file folder from your computer, it won't be completely off your computer. There are steps, but Silhouette has asked us to direct you to their tech support for assistance with these issues so you don't accidentally delete something incorrectly. Every time I try to cut on my cameo 3 it doesn't cut all the way through. How can I fix this?

    Reply
    • Kala

      Hey Melissa,
Sometimes the presets in the machine will not be the same settings that will work best for your material. If it's not cutting through all the way, I would first make sure you have your blade installed correctly. Check out this post for all about the blades:

If you have the blade installed correctly, the next thing you can do is adjust the blade settings. Increase the thickness on the material. How much to increase depends on how close it was to cutting through. If it almost cut through, but not quite there, then adjust thickness up by 5 or so. Try cutting with that and see how it goes. Keep upping the thickness until you max that out, then up the blade length (and decrease thickness again). I would start with a simple shape and try the preset suggestions. Draw a circle in the upper corner of your material and try to cut. If that doesn't work, move the circle over on your screen, adjust the cut settings per the recommendations above and try cutting again. Keep drawing a new circle and moving it over until you get the cut you want. It's a bit of a process, but by doing it this way, you don't waste your materials and you ensure you get the right cut settings.

I would start with trying to get it to connect with the USB cord. Do you have something else you can try plugging in to the USB cord you're using to see if it is the cord? If the cord works with another device, then there may be a problem with the machine. If something else does not work with the cord, then I would try a new USB cord. I would also advise contacting Silhouette if you can't get it to connect. That would be covered under the 1 year manufacturer warranty. Their number is 1-800-859-8243.

I've been trying to figure out my new silhouette cameo (I have the 2 but decided to upgrade to the 3) The only option this one has is to load or unload on the screen so when I load with the cut mat it doesn't go as far in as it should and then doesn't cut half of the things I need to cut.Is there any way to fix this??

    Reply
    • Kala

The Cameo 3 is a little different than the Cameo 2 in how you load your cutting mat. If in your software you a cutting mat, when you click load, it will load as if you have a cutting mat. If you do not have a mat in the software, it will load material only (so not push the mat in as far). You just need to add or remove the mat from the software before cutting. Here's more information about the mat (including the digital side of things) - http://www.craft-e-corner.com/blog/2016/11/the-silhouette-cameo-mat-all-you-need-to-know-and-more.html

      Hi Kat,
SS4 still hasn't been released yet, so I wouldn't worry about updating it yet. SilhouetteAmerica.com is the ONLY place I would ever recommend going to download the software. Here's how to backup your files: https://www.silhouetteamerica.com/printer-friendly/faq/backing-up-the-library

      Hope this helps!

I have a problem with my Cameo 3 that I'm desperately hoping you can help me with. I run SCAL4 on both my widows and Mac computers. Since there isn't a "Load Mat" option on the Cameo 3, how do I get it to recognize the mat when I cut with it? It does not take the mat in all the way. If I use Studio, it will, but I very strongly dislike Studio. Also, I've noticed that it doesn't cut all of the design, almost like the design is outside of the cut area on top, but if I cut the exact same thing on my Cameo 1, it cuts the entire thing. How can I adjust this? I got my Cameo 3 in September and put in a cabinet and went back to using my Cameo 1. Yes I've updated software and firmware.

Why when cutting vinyl on my Cameo 3, the blade starts cutting to the right side about 6 inches down?

    • Kala

That's hard to say- it could be a variety of things. If you can send me a screen shot of your software and what it is doing when it cuts, I might be able to help you narrow it down!

I have purchased the cameo 3. this is the first machine I have ever had. I am having problems getting my downloads to my library. Do they have to be a certain file type? If you could please send me so information on how to do this as well as trace I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks so much.

Are you downloading from the Silhouette Design store or from some other place? If you go from the online store, they may be going into your cloud instead of your library.

Hello! I just got my cameo 3 and I can't make the white roller body unlock. I f I try the complete metal bar just turns, it's too hard. I don't think that's normal?

The white roller bar is kind of hard to adjust the first few times you do it. I always hold one end with one hand and then twist with the other. That way you are holding it still while turning. If you're having trouble turning it, you can try using a rubber band to help you get a grip on the roller while you turn. It should get a little easier to turn the more you do it.

I just received a brand new Cameo 3. I was trying to print tags and had trouble with the blade settings. I called the 1-800 # and they helped me with the settings and now my touch screen is not responsive. They are saying I need to install new firmware but it is not working. I have spent hours on the phone with them with no resolution and still no tags.

I just got the new cameo 3 and I am trying to get the bluetooth to work. I plugged the adapter into my computer that was under the cameo but when I got into the settings on the cameo there is no bluetooth button I can push. I downloaded all the new firmware and did the upgrade to the program too. Am I suppose to do anything else?

    Reply
    • Kala

      Hi Heather,
The Bluetooth adapter needs to stay in the Cameo itself. That is what the Cameo uses to connect to the Bluetooth on your computer. Try plugging the dongle back into the Cameo and see if it comes up? The upgrade to the firmware and software are important, but leaving the Bluetooth dongle in the Cameo machine is a must as well.

      Hope this helps!

Does the autoblade or rachet blade work for cutting fun foam? If so, what cut settings do you recommend?

    Reply
    • Kala

      Hi Gail!
I have cut fun foam with the ratchet blade before. I don't recall the exact settings, but I believe I did a blade length of 10 and did a double cut. It cut like butter! I will have to look into that again and make a fun tutorial :)
      Hope this helps a little!

I have been trying to cut words on vinyl for the past few days. I've watched countless videos, tried the atuomatic settings, tried setting it myself, done with a mat and without and have done nothing but wasted tons of vinyl sheets. If I use a lower setting, the blade barely makes an imprint on the vinyl. If I go one higher the vinyl is sliced into pieces. I've been a cricut user in the past, and I feel so lost! What can I do??

Sorry to hear that you are struggling with this Maureen! There are a few things you can try...

-Have you updated your firmware on the machine? If it is not V1.4 then it is not updated. You can update that here: https://www.silhouetteamerica.com/firmware
To check what version firmware you are using, turn the machine on, click the gear button in the upper corner and arrow down until you find firmware- click on that and it will tell you what version you have.

-Make sure the blade is properly installed. You need to push the blade all the way down into the holder, and then lock it into place. There should be no gap between the ridge on the blade and the blade holder and a blue dot should appear when you click it into place.

-On the software end of things, make sure you are picking the auto blade from the drop down menu. The Silhouette Cameo 3 does not default to the auto blade. To pick the blade, chose your material then click "advanced" and it will show you blade options. Chose the auto blade from the drop down menu.

If you have all these things covered, there are a few things you can do with the blade to side skirt the issues...

-Tell the machine to cut, let the blade adjust, then hit pause on the touch screen before letting it go into cutting. Pop the blade out, check to make sure the red line is above the number you want. If it is, then pop it back in and see if it will cut properly. If it is not, you can pop it up and down to move the red line to the right setting, then put it back in the machine. The auto blades seem to need some time to "loosen" up a little and so you can do it this way for a while until it starts to set reliably on its own.

-You can also tell your machine that you are using a ratchet blade and just set the blade setting to the correct number yourself. While this kind of defeats the purpose of having an auto blade, it may save you some headaches.

-You can try using a black ratchet blade in general and forgo the auto blade all together. I know it's a feature on the Cameo 3 that many like, but again, it might save you some headaches.

-It's possible that your blade settings just need to be adjusted. If it is cutting, just not cutting through all the way, you can try upping the thickness in the settings, or increasing the blade length as well, it depends on how much it's not cutting through. If it's barely making a scratch, upping the blade length might be the first step. If it is mostly cutting through, but not giving you a clean cut, adjusting the thickness would be my first thought.

If you try these suggestions and it's still not cutting, please contact me at service@craft-e-corner.com and I'll see what else we can try!
      Hope this helps!

Hi. I have a Cameo 3. My autoblade quit adjusting properly. I believe this has something to do with a misalignment. Everything I cut has a little under a half inch margin from the left side. The cartridge does not appear like it is in the correct starting point. When I set it for the autoblade, it is not going all the way over to the left to adjust like it did in the past. I do not know how to correct this. Please help.

      Hi Tracy,
I would advise calling Silhouette on this one. Their number is 1-800-859-8243. There is a way you can "reset" your machine by pushing the carriage from one end to the other, but I don't have the specific steps. Please give them a call so they can walk you though that.

Thank you so much your information everything is so helpful! I saw that you suggested a dish mat to keep the machine a little quieter. Silly question, but is the machine sitting on the dish mat? Also, my machine should arrive tomorrow do you have any other helpful hints on how to set up your work space around the Cameo 3? Does it need to be plugged into a computer or can I set the machine up in another room and use the Bluetooth? thanks Stacy

    • Kala

      Hi Stacy!
Yes, I use the padded dish mat under the machine- this kind of muffles the machine noises. A folded towel or something similar would probably work as well. If you have a Cameo 3 and get it set up with the Bluetooth, you don't need to have the USB cord plugged in so you can space your machine a little farther away from the computer- however- you need to be next to the machine to load the cutting mat, so I just have my computer next to the Cameo either way. I'm not sure how you would make it all work from another room unless you had a roll of vinyl loaded and just keep cutting from that? For me, I find it helpful to have a plastic drawer stacker thing that has vinyl scraps in it, a cup for all the blades and pen holders, etc.

      Hope this helps!

Why does print and cut not work on the Cameo 3 when you want to cut 2 or 3 times in a row?
it only works with one sheet. the plotter won't cut the second one normaly.

    What to do?

      Hi Emily,
I haven't had that particular issue with my machine, if it continues to flicker, I would call Silhouette and see if they have any suggestions. If the machine is defective, they should be able to fix or replace it for you under the warranty as well.

      Hope this helps!

can you buy any silhouette cameo and use it for both scrap booking and cake designs as long as you buy the accessory cake cutter in order to have multi colored designs do you need a printer with edible ink or can the cameo do this as well

    Reply
    • Kala

      Hi Cheryl,
Technically you can use the machine for both of these things, but you need to sanitize everything for food and ensure you have a dedicated, sanitized blade for food. If you have a multicolored design, if you wanted it to be an edible item, you would need an edible ink printer. The Cameo itself cannot print. Hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any questions!

HELP! I have the Silhouette Cameo 3 and I experiencing this annoying thing - my cutter is not cutting fonts and objects - I have done the trace - I d/l from the Silhouette store -I have tried using fonts on my computer and nothing is working. I made sure the cut lines are thick/bold red and it reads CUT when I click on it....I have some pictures to show what I mean, but there is no place to upload.

A simple example is this: I d/l a dump truck silhouette from within the Silhouette software. I placed it on my work area - I sized it and when it cut it only cut part of the dump truck. It didn't finish cutting it out and yet it said it was finished. HELP what am I doing wrong with my fonts and objects?

      Hi Soni,
I'm sorry to hear that you're having problems with this. You shouldn't have to trace fonts at all.... try selecting the image and then go to the cut settings window. Is cut selected? When you are on the cutting window, is everything bright red around the edges? If you can email or call us - service@craft-e-corner.com and 800-236-3877 maybe I can help you work through it more!

      Thanks

I just got the cameo 3. I have no idea what I am doing wrong but I can't get it to load any thing under the roller. I also cannot get it to connect with my PC. I hit send to silhouette and it the status thing says checking connection. I have the usb connected. I have tryied using this machine for 4 days and still have not been able to make it work. I purchased this through this site. Can I return it? This is the most frustrating thing I have every tried to use.

      Hi Nicole,
I know the machine can be intimidating. Let's work on this together! I can help you get it going and I am sure you will love it once you have it figured out... so the first problem you have is about loading the cutting mat. To load a mat, butt the mat right up against the roller then click "load" and it should suck it in. Make sure that the roller bar is down (there is a lever on the right hand side that you can flip up and down, the right hand side of the roller bar will move when you flip this switch. Make sure it is flipped UP so it is in the locked position). Next, make sure you are holding the mat in place and then clicking the load button. Line the edge of your mat up with the blue line on the deck of the machine (on the left hand side). Try loading a mat first... if you want to load HTV or vinyl without a mat, we can talk about that separately.

Next question you have is about connecting to the PC. If you are using the USB cord, it shouldn't be giving you trouble. Have you updated the firmware on the machine? The firmware is what is on the machine itself, and it comes "outdated" so you need to update it. If you have not done that yet, update this and it should connect without issue.

Let me know if these suggestions help! If you need further assistance, please contact us at service@craft-e-corner.com or 1-800-236-3877.

      Thank you
