To make this project, start by cutting the finger base pieces - both the front and back - from craft foam. Then, cut the finger detail design from white iron-on vinyl.

Helpful Tips for Cutting Craft Foam

Before you get started, here are a few tips to help you get the best results when cutting craft foam with your Cricut:

First, be sure to move the star wheels on your machine off to the side - either all the way to one side or split them to both sides. This will help prevent the star wheels from leaving little marks or dents in your craft foam.

When you’re setting up your design in Cricut Design Space, try to position your cut image toward the center of your material and away from the edges. The star wheels will still roll along the far right and left edges of your mat, but by keeping your design away from those areas, you can avoid having any marks show up on the parts you’re cutting.

For the best hold, use a sticky StrongGrip cutting mat along with the deep-point blade. Craft foam tends to stretch during cutting, so tape it down securely on all four edges. This will help keep the foam in place while your Cricut works. Again, cutting from the center of the foam sheet - rather than close to the edges - also helps prevent stretching.

When you’re ready to cut, select “Craft Foam” from the materials list. Don’t be surprised if your machine takes additional passes to get all the way through - it’s totally normal.

And one more tip - stick with craft foam that’s around 2mm thick. Those thicker 5mm sheets won’t cut properly with your Cricut machine.

Once you’ve finished cutting the iron-on design, go ahead and weed away the excess vinyl, leaving just the part you want to transfer. Then, use your Cricut Heat Press to apply the design to the front piece of the finger base.

For the best results, I recommend following the step-by-step instructions in the Cricut Heat Guide or the Cricut Heat app. They’ll help you choose the right temperature, time, and pressure to make sure your design sticks perfectly.

To assemble the foam finger, apply glue all the way around the edges of the foam back piece and press the front on to it. Just make sure to leave the bottom edge open - that’s where your goodies will slide in. Give the glue a little time to set, and you’re ready to fill the finger with candy and enjoy.
