Are you a dog lover who enjoys a good DIY project? If so, you’re in for a treat! Today, I’m going to show you how to turn a simple unfinished wood pet leash holder into a personalized lint roller holder that’s perfect for any dog enthusiast. With just a few materials and some Cricut vinyl decals, you’ll create a unique and functional piece that adds a bit of flair to your home while keeping things tidy.
In this project, I'm personalizing an unfinished pet leash holder for the wall that I found at Walmart.com. This craft wood plaque is about 6x8 inches and features a paw print cutout, a keyhole back, and a single black hook.
Start by unscrewing the hook to detach it from the plaque. Then, apply a stain to the wood and let it dry completely.
Put on 1-2 coats of poly topcoat according to the manufacturer's instructions and let it dry completely. This will not only protect the wood but also give you a smooth surface for sticking on your vinyl decal. After it’s dry, reattach the hook to the plaque.
In Cricut Design Space, add the text “Because Dogs” to your canvas using whatever fonts you like. I’m going with BFC Basically and Aldine 721 BT. Make sure to position and size the text so it fits nicely on your pet leash hanger.
Make the project, cutting the text from white permanent vinyl.
Carefully weed your project using your favorite weeding tools to get rid of the excess vinyl. This means removing all the extra bits that aren't part of your design, so you’re left with just the text you want.
Cut a piece of Cricut Transfer Tape a little larger than your vinyl design and use it to transfer the vinyl onto the wood leash holder. Use your Cricut Scraper Tool to firmly burnish it so the vinyl sticks well to the wood and you get a smooth, bubble-free application.
And there you have it! Your custom “Because Dogs” lint roller holder is now ready to make a charming addition to your home. This project is a great way to blend your love for dogs with a bit of DIY creativity, resulting in a unique and practical piece that’s both stylish and functional. Whether you’re using it to keep your space tidy or just showing off your love for your furry friends, this personalized holder is sure to bring a smile to your face. Enjoy your new creation and happy crafting!
