You know how babies grow so fast it feels like you blink and suddenly those tiny onesies don't even fit over their heads anymore? Instead of letting them sit around collecting dust, why not turn a few into something super special for you?
Today I'm sharing how to repurpose those sweet baby clothes into a cozy, personalized "Mama" sweatshirt - a wearable memory that keeps those early snuggles close to your heart. We'll use the Cricut Maker and its rotary blade to cut the letters cleanly from fabric, making this an easy, sentimental DIY you’ll actually want to wear.
Start by going through your stash of old baby clothes - look for pieces with fun patterns, soft textures, or little prints that bring back sweet memories. You’ll want a mix of colors and designs so the letters on your sweatshirt really pop and feel personal. It doesn’t matter if they’re a bit worn or stained. Pick out a few favorites to use for cutting out the letters, and get ready to turn those baby days into something beautiful you can wear.

Grab a pair of fabric shears and cut the baby clothes apart along the seams. This gives you nice, flat pieces to cut your letters from. Don’t worry about being too precise - just try to get as much usable fabric as you can from each piece.

You can either create your own design in Cricut Design Space or use the one I picked for this project. I used a design that’s included with Cricut Access called “Mama” (you can find it by searching #M505AC6E0).

Swap out the fine-point blade on your Cricut Maker for the rotary blade. Then just load up your fabric pieces one at a time on the Cricut Fabric Mat and cut out each letter of “MAMA” from a different piece. The rotary blade handles those baby clothes like a champ and gives you super clean cuts!

Grab your sewing machine and use a small zigzag stitch to attach each one to the front of your sweatshirt. Take your time lining them up, and go slow around the curves to keep it neat. The zigzag stitch helps secure the fabric without too much fraying, and it gives it that cute, handmade look.

If sewing’s not really your thing, no worries - you can totally do this with iron-on fusible material instead! Just apply the fusible backing to the baby clothes before you cut out the letters with your Cricut. Then, once your letters are ready, you can simply iron them onto the front of your sweatshirt. Easy, no sewing required!
And that’s it - you’ve just turned those sweet little baby clothes into a one-of-a-kind “Mama” sweatshirt you can wear and cherish forever. It’s such a special way to hold onto those early memories while making something just for you. Whether you stitched it or ironed it, the end result is full of love and personality. Plus, every time you wear it, you’ll get a little reminder of those snuggly baby days. Can’t wait to see how yours turns out. Happy crafting, Mama!
