Have you ever played with one of those mermaid sequin pillows - the kind you can swipe with your hand to change the color or draw little shapes with your fingers? They’re seriously addictive. Well, I recently discovered that if one side of the sequins is white, you can actually press a Cricut Infusible Ink design right onto it. It opens up a whole new world of custom designs - quotes, names, cute graphics - you name it. In this post, I’ll walk you through how I turned a plain reversible sequin pillow into a fun, personalized piece that’s just as satisfying to flip as it is to look at.
Start by creating your design in Cricut Design Space. If you’re using text, go with a chunky or block-style font - the bolder, the better. Intricate fonts or super thin lines don’t transfer as cleanly with Infusible Ink, especially on a textured surface like sequins. The same goes for images: keep your design simple and bold for the best, most vibrant results once it’s pressed.

Make sure your hands are clean before handling the Infusible Ink Transfer Sheet. Place the sheet ink side up on a StrongGrip cutting mat, and try to avoid touching the inked surface too much. The natural oils from your skin can mess with the way the ink transfers, and you definitely want those colors to pop. If you have a Cricut Brayer, use that to smooth the sheet down firmly onto the mat. It helps you get a good stick without smudging or damaging the ink.

Once your design is ready to go in Cricut Design Space, it’s time to cut it out! Load your mat into the machine and let your Cricut do its thing. Make sure you’ve selected Infusible Ink Transfer Sheet as your material so the machine uses the right pressure and settings.

Now comes the weeding part - this is where you peel away the extra bits of the transfer sheet that you don’t want on your pillow. Use your fingers to carefully remove everything around your design, leaving only the name or image you plan to press onto the sequins.
When you're ready to press, follow Cricut’s recommended steps for using Infusible Ink - it really helps get the best results. Start by laying your pillow cover flat on your EasyPress mat and slide a piece of white cardstock inside the cover. This protects the back side of the pillow from any ink that might bleed through during the press.
Next, run your hand over the sequins to smooth them all into place with the white side facing up - this is the surface your design will transfer onto. Use a lint roller to pick up any dust, stray threads, or fuzz. Even tiny particles can affect the transfer, so this step’s important. Once everything’s prepped, lay a piece of butcher paper (it comes with your Infusible Ink sheets) on top of the sequins and press with your EasyPress at 385 degrees for about 5 seconds.

Now it’s time to place your design! Take your weeded Infusible Ink transfer sheet and position it ink side down right in the center of the white sequins on your pillow cover. Make sure it’s lined up just how you want it - once it’s pressed, it’s permanent, so double-check placement before moving on.
If the transfer sheet doesn’t want to stay put, use a few small pieces of Cricut heat-resistant tape to secure it in place. This keeps everything from shifting during the press, which is super important for getting clean, crisp results.
Once your design is positioned, cover it with a sheet of butcher paper (this helps protect both your design and your press). Then press with your Cricut EasyPress set to 385°F for about 60 seconds. Be careful not to move the press while it’s heating - just hold it steady with light, even pressure. When time’s up, lift the press straight up - don’t slide or shift it, or you might blur the design.

After it’s cooled, carefully peel away the butcher paper and the transfer carrier sheet. You’ll be able to see your custom design right on those white sequins - so cool!
Finally, slip your pillow insert inside the cover, fluff it up, and voila! You’ve got a one-of-a-kind, personalized sequin pillow that’s as fun to flip as it is to look at.
