Teacher Magnetic Bookmark Gift Using Cricut Print Then Cut

Looking for a sweet and practical gift to show your appreciation for the teachers in your life? How about making a personalized magnetic bookmark? It’s a thoughtful way to add a touch of charm to their daily reading, and with Cricut’s Print Then Cut feature, it’s easier than you might think.

Materials:

• Self-adhesive magnet tape or squares
• Cardstock, white
• Home printer
• Cricut Cutting Machine capable of Print Then Cut
• Cricut Scoring Tool

Directions:

This project is a fun variation of our Magnetic Bookmarks post from October 2023. Beth, from our Design Team, has made a great short video that walks through all the steps for the project. This is a Print Then Cut project project, meaning you will print a full color design on your home printer and then your Cricut machine will cut it out. Print Then Cut is great for creating custom stickers, labels, and other intricate designs that require precise cutting.

For teacher bookmarks, create your cut design in Cricut Design Space or go directly to this project. Each bookmark consists of 2 copies of a teacher-theme print design sized about 2.5-3 inches across combined with a 1x0.5 inch scored rectangle as shown below.

Once your design is ready, click the “Make It” button in Cricut Design Space. Follow the prompts to make the project using Print Then Cut. The software will guide you to print your design on white cardstock using your home printer. It will include a registration mark (a black box with a pattern) on the printout, which helps the Cricut machine detect where to cut.

After printing, load the printed sheet onto a Cricut cutting mat. Ensure that the printout is aligned correctly at the top left corner on the mat and securely adhered to avoid shifting during cutting.

Load the cutting mat into your Cricut machine. The machine will first use the registration marks to calibrate and detect the edges of your printed design, then cut and score the bookmarks.

Fold the each bookmark along the score line.

To add magnets to your bookmark, start by attaching a lightweight magnet or a piece of magnetic tape to the center of the back side of each bookmark section. It’s important to line up the magnets precisely so that when the bookmark is closed around a book page, the magnets align and stick together neatly. This ensures that the bookmark stays securely in place and doesn’t slip out of position.
