Grinch Christmas Countdown Calendar Using Cricut Vinyl

Looking to add a dash of whimsy to your holiday decor? We've got just the project for you: a DIY Grinch Christmas Countdown Calendar using Cricut Vinyl! This fun and festive tabletop decoration is perfect for counting down the days until Christmas in style.

In this tutorial, we'll walk you through the step-by-step process of creating your own Grinch-themed countdown calendar using materials like clear glass or acrylic, colorful Cricut Vinyl, and handy tools like transfer tape and a weeder tool.

Materials:

Directions:

1) Upload your SVG design to the Cricut Design Space canvas.

I purchased my image from DawnsDigitalVisuals on Etsy, but you can substitute a similar design from Etsy or any other SVG source, including Cricut Access.

New to working with SVGs? Check out this tutorial on our blog - How to Upload Files to Cricut Design Space.

2) Size the cut design to fit your frame.

Add a rectangle shape to your canvas and size it to match your table top sign or freestanding frame. You won't be cutting the rectangle, only using it to size the cut design properly. I have organized my cut design on a 5x8 inch rectangle to fit my particular frame.

3) Mirror your design and make the project.

The cut vinyl will be applied to the back side of the clear glass or acrylic frame, so you'll want to mirror the design before cutting. You can cut all 5 colors at one time using the technique demonstrated in this tutorial from our blog. Or just follow the prompts in Design Space to cut the vinyl, one color at a time.

4) Weed the project.

Weed each color of the cut vinyl to remove the excess vinyl using your favorite weeding tool.

5) Transfer the vinyl using transfer tape.

Apply the cut vinyl to the back side of the clear glass or acrylic sign using transfer tape. Transfer the black outline of the hand shape before applying the green parts of the hand.

  1. Cut a piece of transfer paper a little larger than your vinyl.
  2. Peel the backing off the transfer tape and place it sticky side down onto the vinyl design. Use a scraper tool to firmly press the transfer tape onto the vinyl, ensuring it adheres well.
  3. Peel off the backing of the vinyl carefully, leaving the vinyl attached to the transfer tape.
  4. Position the transfer tape with the vinyl onto the back of the glass sign. Then use the scraper tool again to press down firmly and remove any air bubbles.
  5. Slowly peel back the transfer tape at a sharp angle, leaving the vinyl adhered to the surface. Smooth out any remaining bubbles or wrinkles for a neat finish.
