If you love using your Cricut for fun and creative projects, you’re going to want to try making these giant pencils! They’re super easy to customize, add a playful touch to any classroom or study space, and are a perfect way to celebrate back-to-school season.
Take the pool noodles outside and give them a good, even coat of yellow spray paint. Make sure you’re in a well-ventilated area, then let them sit until they’re completely dry before moving on to the next step.

Cut a rectangular piece of pink cardstock large enough to wrap all the way around the end of the pool noodle - this will become the pencil’s eraser. Once you’ve got the right size, wrap it snugly around the noodle and secure it in place with hot glue.

In the same way, cut a smaller strip of gray cardstock to act as the metal band beneath the eraser. Wrap it around the noodle just under the pink piece and secure it with hot glue.

Roll a piece of tan cardstock into a cone and hot glue the edge so it holds its shape - this will form the pencil tip. Trim the wide end of the cone with a slightly jagged edge to mimic the look of sharpened wood, then color the pointed end black to create the pencil’s lead.

Use hot glue to attach the pencil tip you just made to the opposite end of the pool noodle, right across from the eraser. Hold it in place for a moment so it sets securely.

Now that your giant pencil base is all set, it’s time to move on to Cricut Design Space. You can jump straight to this project if you like. For my design, I’m using the DJ Easy Cut Font to create the words ‘Back to School.’

Go ahead and make the project, cutting the phrase out of black vinyl.

Once it’s cut, carefully weed out the excess vinyl, then use transfer tape to place the letters neatly onto the front of your giant pencils.

These giant pencils make such a fun addition to any classroom or school space, and the best part is you can personalize them however you like - different colors, names, or messages - so each one is truly your own.

If you’re loving this giant pencil project, there are plenty of other fun ways to use your Cricut for school or classroom projects. These projects are all easy to personalize and can really help make back-to-school season more creative and fun!
